Gary Johnson has this evening revealed that he had not made any enquires to Kevin Phillips' agent about bringing the striker to Ashton Gate.
The Bristol Evening Post today claimed that City had been tracking the former West Bromwich Albion hitman as he was out of contract during the summer, but decided against the move as Phillips requested too much money.
However the club's official website published: "Meanwhile the City boss has clarified that, contrary to a report in today's Bristol Evening Post, he has not at any stage in the close season enquired about Kevin Phillips".
The former Sunderland and Watford hitman eventually signed for relegated Birmingham City last week.
